Save RedTail Community
Our Mission:
Save RedTail Community is a coalition of neighbors committed to stopping the development of RedTail golf course as a Major League Baseball Stadium.
We started as a group of neighbors who met to discuss ways we might effectively advocate against the sale of RedTail Community Golf Course to the Portland Diamond Project, which intends to develop the site into the largest Major League Baseball stadium in the country. Since that first meeting we have grown to more than 80 households in the cities of Beaverton, Portland, and Tigard as well as Unincorporated Washington County, with more joining us every week. It is a diverse group: we are working professionals in tech, finance, and law. We are doctors, artists, service providers, teachers, scientists, engineers, and entrepreneurs. We are young parents of growing families, and retired couples who raised their children in this area. Our shared concern for the future use and appropriate stewardship of the RedTail property is the thread that binds us together.
What We Are Doing
Our Work
RedTail is a unique resource in our community. Its 164 acres of lush, rolling greens are punctuated by mature trees, native shrubs, and habitat which are home to a number of wildlife species, all located within the Fanno Creek watershed. This jewel has long been enjoyed by area golfers, and serves as the practice and competition course for multiple public high schools. Owned by the City of Portland and located within Beaverton City limits, RedTail is operated by the Portland Parks and Recreation Department. It is the key economic driver within Portland’s group of five publicly funded courses, and through its high use provides a financial cushion allowing this vital program to thrive.
It is within the context of the broad impact and wide reach RedTail has in our community, as well as the various stakeholders involved in deciding its fate, that Save RedTail Community has focused its work.
